2 Superfoods For Naturally High Energy

2 Superfoods For Naturally High Energy

After living with sub-optimal energy levels for most of my life, I finally figured it out…

The foods I was and wasn’t eating were playing a key role in my lack of vitality.

These days I swear by a couple of superfood kitchen staples that help take my energy to the next level – without overstimulation.

My two go-to superfoods are easy to implement into your daily routine and have added nutritional benefits to overall health.

Foods for energy

1. Green tea:

While green tea does contain a small amount of caffeine, the reason it is so effective is thanks to an amino acid called L-theanine. L-theanine increases alpha waves in the brain that are associated with a state of calm alertness.

In addition to stimulating the right brain waves, L-theanine boosts levels of another amino acid called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). GABA is our primary inhibitory neurotransmitter and responsible for the pleasant effect of calming anxious nerves that are overexcited and unable to focus. This makes L-theanine useful for enhancing mood and the ability to cope with stressful situations.

If you really want to take your green tea to the next level, add 1 teaspoon of Coconut Oil or of MCT oil for some added cognitive effects.

Avoid drinking your green tea after 2pm to allow ample time for the caffeine to get out of your system.

2. Maca:

Maca is best known for its effects on increasing both physical and mental performance. It’s loaded with vitamins such as Vitamin A, B, C, D, and E.

The secret to maca’s ability to increase energy lies in the fact that it supports our body’s over-worked adrenal glands instead of adding more stress by increasing toxins or depleting nutrients. Maca is an adaptogen which means it improves the balance of our health by enabling the body to heal itself with just the right amount of support.

Maca also contains energy-producing, protein-building amino acids that fuel the body and assist with recover after a strenuous workout. With its incredible nutrient profile, supplement savvy athletes use maca to improve their energy level without over-stimulating their body.

You can buy maca in powder, capsules, or even liquid form. Best taken before 4pm to ensure it doesn’t affect your sleep.

Naturally buzzing,
xx Sandra
